Qandil Mountains, Kurdistan (KurdishMedia.com) 04 January 2009: The PKK spokesman in an interview with KurdishMedia.com stated that opening a Kurdish Channel is just to gaining Kurds votes in Northern Kurdistan (Kurdistan-Turkey). And it is a technique to win the upcoming elections, but Kurds in Diyarbekir will give Erdogan a good lesson.

The state-owned Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), under a slogan of “We live under the same sky” started its Kurdish broadcasting in 01 January 2009.

The Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in Kurdish “TR ses li ser xere be” “May TRT 6 be beneficial”. He had said the sentence earlier in an interview with TRT 6.

Ahmed Deniz the chief of foreign affairs of (KCK) “Koma Civaken Kurdistan” in an interview with KurdishMedia.com refused the attempt by the Turkey State.

“It is a failure by Turkey. It is hypocrisy of the state. The state doesn’t acknowledge even natural rights for Kurds and Kurdish language is still forbidden in Turkey, while the Turkish state opens a Kurdish Channel. This doesn’t solve Kurdish issue in Turkey,” Deniz stated.

Deniz elaborated that Turkish policy is clear towards Kurds. “Turkish policy doesn’t rejects the existence a Kurdish identity and the Identity of Kurds in Turkey is under the threat. The Turkish attempt is deceiving Kurds, not addressing the Kurdish quest in Turkey. Turkey should solve Kurdish issue not open a Kurdish channel because our problem is not TV. We have TV channels. We don’t need it anymore channel.”

The use of Kurdish was prohibited by the Turkish state until the 1991. Under pressure from the European Union to strengthen the rights of Kurdish people, TRT began broadcasting documentaries and news in Kurdish in 2004, but only for about 30 minutes each week. TRT 6, however, will be broadcast for 24 hours a day.

The PKK spokesman believes that Turkey should mention Kurds as a nation in its constitution, accept Kurdish culture and see Kurdish language as an official language in Turkey. These will be steps to solve the Kurdish issue.

Deniz said, “When Turkey gives Kurds democratic and political rights, then it can open a Kurdish TV.”

Deniz recalled the experiences during the last three decades in Turkey. “When Sulaiman Dimril said that we accept the Kurds in Turkey, it brought nothing afterwards. Also Erebkan wanted to do something, but also it brought nothing after his speeches. And the last time Erdogan said that he solves the Kurdish issue. The Kurdish issue should be solved politically, but these what we recive are only words, not substance.”

Deniz emphasised that this step is just a technique, Turkey deny Kurds demands.

The PKK high ranking man criticised stated that Turkish promises are only baseless propaganda. Turkey hasn’t changed its policy. This was confirmed by Turkish officials themselves. We heard and saw Cemil Cicik, the deputy of Turkey PM, who said that Turkish policy towards Kurds has not changed. It is the same policy which was in use 70 years ago.”

In his final words about the Kurds reacts towards the new TV, Deniz stated, “In the upcoming elections, Kurds will give Erdogan and the racist Turkish state a good lesson that they never forget.”

Dr. Bahoz Erdal the chief of (HPG) “Hezi Parastini Gel” told ROJ TV “any one who participate in this TV is ‘jash’.” Jash is a Kurdish word literary means a baby donkey and used to imply “traitor” in Kurdish political debates.
